The optimizer uses modern portfolio theory to identify portfolios of mutual funds that maximize return for a given level of risk (measured by volatility). You can choose to calibrate the returns, volatilies and correlations based on 3, 5 or 10 years of historical data ending December 2015.

Key Terms
12b-1 Fees – "fees paid by the fund out of fund assets to cover the costs of marketing and selling fund shares and sometimes to cover the costs of providing shareholder services." [1]
Annualized Return – "shows how much your investments have grown or declined – on average – over each year of a multi-year period" [2]
Deferred Load – "a sales charge (also known as a 'deferred sales charge') investors pay when they redeem (or sell) mutual fund shares, generally used by the fund to compensate brokers." [1]
Front Load – "an upfront sales charge investors pay when they purchase fund shares, generally used by the fund to compensate brokers. A front-end load reduces the amount available to purchase fund shares." [1]
Management Fee – "fee paid out of fund assets to the fund's investment adviser for investment portfolio management, any other management fees payable to the fund's investment adviser or its affiliates, and any administrative fee payable to the investment adviser that are not included in the "Other Expenses" category. A fund's management fees appears as a category under "Annual Fund Operating Expenses" in the Fee Table." [1]
Net Expense Ratio – "the fund's total annual operating expenses (including management fees, distribution (12b-1) fees, and other expenses) [less any fee waivers] expressed as a percentage of average net assets." [1]
Rating – The rating displayed is the overall Morningstar Rating™. "Morningstar rates mutual funds from 1 to 5 stars based on how well they've performed (after adjusting for risk and accounting for sales charges) in comparison to similar funds. Within each Morningstar Category, the top 10% of funds receive 5 stars and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. Funds are rated for up to three time periods-three-, five-, and 10-years and these ratings are combined to produce an overall rating. Funds with less than three years of history are not rated. Ratings are objective, based entirely on a mathematical evaluation of past performance. They're a useful tool for identifying funds worthy of further research, but shouldn't be considered buy or sell signals." [3]
Sales Charge (or "Load") – "the amount that investors pay when they purchase (front-end load) or redeem (back-end/deferred load) shares in a mutual fund, similar to a commission. The SEC's rules do not limit the size of sales load a fund may charge, but FINRA's rules state that mutual fund sales loads cannot exceed 8.5% and must be even lower depending on other fees and charges assessed." Share Classes (or "Classes") – "different types of shares issued by a single fund, often referred to as Class A shares, Class B shares, and so on. Each class invests in the same "pool" (or investment portfolio) of securities and has the same investment objectives and policies. Entire Agreement
This User Agreement shall constitute the entire agreement between you and THE FUND GUY regarding the subject matter hereof and shall supersede any and all prior negotiations, representations, warranties, undertakings, or agreements, written or oral, between the parties regarding such subject matter.
Severability
To the maximum extent possible, each provision in this User Agreement shall be interpreted in such manner as to be valid and enforceable under applicable law. If any provision of this User Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, such provision shall be modified so as to be rendered valid and enforceable while implementing, to the maximum extent possible, the original intent of such provision. If such modification is not possible or allowed, then such provision shall be ineffective only to the extent of such unenforceability or invalidity without affecting the remainder of such provision or any other provisions in this User Agreement.

This Agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice-of-law or conflict-of-law provision or rule (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction) that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than that of the State of New York. You hereby consent to, and agree to bring any and all claims in, the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Dallas, TX for any action or proceeding arising under or relating to this User Agreement, the Information, or the use of, or reliance on the Information, whether based in contract or tort or otherwise.
Entire Agreement
This User Agreement shall constitute the entire agreement between you and THE FUND GUY regarding the subject matter hereof and shall supersede any and all prior negotiations, representations, warranties, undertakings, or agreements, written or oral, between the parties regarding such subject matter.
Severability
To the maximum extent possible, each provision in this User Agreement shall be interpreted in such manner as to be valid and enforceable under applicable law. If any provision of this User Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, such provision shall be modified so as to be rendered valid and enforceable while implementing, to the maximum extent possible, the original intent of such provision. If such modification is not possible or allowed, then such provision shall be ineffective only to the extent of such unenforceability or invalidity without affecting the remainder of such provision or any other provisions in this User Agreement.
